Support Services

Pregnancy Support

You find yourself pregnant and you're not quite sure where to go or what to do. You've come to the right place!

At The LIFE Nest, supporting you and your growing baby is our number one concern. We have put together a team of caring individuals who are invested in providing the best care possible to our Indigenous community members.

We are available to speak with you on the phone or via text. We can also meet with you in person, either in your home or out in the community. Whatever makes you feel the most comfortable. The number one goal would be to listen to you and come up with your specific needs. We would then provide you with an individualized plan of care.

It is important that you feel supported during this time in your life. You are not alone!

Doula Support

Doulas are helpers in pregnancy, birthing, and early parenting. They have an important role in supporting families in navigating their life changes and the medical system.

As support people, doulas take care of the non-medical aspects of your experience, such as:

  • helping you to plan & prepare for birth by giving you resources and information
  • honouring any tradition or ceremony you would like to have for your birth; and
  • helping you with comfort measures and helping you to keep your focus

Doulas are support people for the whole family circle. They can help your loved ones feel more included in your care.

How is a Doula different from a midwife?

Doulas are distinct from midwives because they do not:

  • provide any medical care; or
  • keep any medical records.

Midwives provide the medical care as well as many of the supports doulas provide. Midwives and doulas can work together as helpers to guide families through a childbearing experience that meets their hopes of how they would like to welcome their baby into this world.

Your health card does not cover the cost of a doula.

At The LIFE Nest, we believe that all women in need should have access to a doula. We have doulas that have offered a significantly reduced rate in order to serve you. We are also currently working on getting funding for the Indigenous Women in our community.

It is important that you feel supported during this time in your life. You are not alone!

Whether this is your first child or not, having a new baby can be hard. Finding the balance between caring for this new child and caring for yourself can be especially difficult. It is so important that you feel well educated and supported.

There are caring individuals that would love to come spend time with you and your baby to help you learn and grow together. We feel that with the right amount of encouragement and information, you will be able to take steps toward confident independence.

We can meet with you in your home or out in the community too.

Safe Homes

You may have been told that you are not able to be left alone with your child/children at the moment and you need somewhere safe to go. You've come to the right place!

We understand that just because you have been told this, doesn't mean that you are not a loving mother or father. There could be so many reasons why you find yourself in this situation. We do not judge you. We are here to support and encourage you through this difficult time.

There are homes in the community where other Indigenous people like you have offered to open up their homes to you. It is so important to our community that we do all that we can to give you the best chance to keep you and your baby together.

You will still be responsible to care for your child while in this safe home. You will have the compassionate care of a loving elder to help you as you and your baby adjust.

It is important that you feel supported during this time in your life. You are not alone!
