Hi! My name is Rachael and I am a CAPPA certified Labour and Postpartum Doula. I went to Brock University where I majored in psychology. For the past 10 years I have worked as a developmental support worker, which is a truly rewarding career path! I have a loving husband and we have two daughters, aged 5 & 3. While I was on maternity leave with my second daughter, I became more interested in pregnancy, birth and the postpartum period. I experienced postpartum depression which led me to the desire to help other moms who might be experiencing the same thing. I took my doula training in March 2016 and began working as a labour & postpartum doula while maintaining my job as a developmental support worker on a part time basis. At this time, I am focusing on working as a postpartum doula and short term nanny to families that need my support. I love that as a postpartum doula & nanny I can help take some pressure off families to make their lives even just a little bit easier.

Being around Moms & Babies has forever been a part of my life it seems. From the time I was a little girl and practicing on my collection of dolls, to my teen years when I eagerly sought out babysitting opportunities, and into my 20’s when I gave birth to my own wonderful children, it’s just always been a part of my life. Some things really are a calling I believe, and my goal has always been to embrace those experiences as they were presented to me. And what a journey it’s been so far! :) My Doula journey began 25+ years ago after having birthed my own babies. It was a time of joy and excitement and the gathering of so much information that I found to be helpful to families I engaged with in their own birth experiences. From my giddiness at completing my training with Informed Homebirth / Informed Birth & Parenting, to the awe-inspiring coaching sessions I experienced with the one-and-only Ina May Gaskin, I found my way into a world of beautiful experiences that opened my heart to a job that could never really be just ‘a job’ for me. And then life stepped in and altered my path, and I began directing my energies into other areas that also necessitated my time and heart. I focussed on the fields of child health & development, personal injury rehabilitation, and the intricacies of how Autism & Acquired Brain Injury impact the lives of children & their families. And somehow years and years have flown by, and yet my journey of learning and helping and sharing is always ongoing. I’ve delved into so many things along the way, and my quest to maximize my knowledge base for the benefit of my clients has indeed taught me so much. I branched into Childbirth Education, Infant Massage Instruction, Lactation Education, New Parent Education, and eagerly absorbed teachings on working with hypno-birthing couples, using TENS units & Rebozos & Acupressure for labour & birth, and use of the Spinning Babies techniques. And, not to be left out, I also found time and love to embrace Reiki and went on to achieve my Master level, and then added the Energy Awaken method & Crystal Healing to those treatments.
And so I’ve been busy, and I’ll continue my learning mission wherever it takes me. And I’m thankful every day for people that allow me to be a part of their life experiences, for that is the reason I journey on and strive to give ‘with head & heart & hands’ to those that come across my path in this wonderful thing called ‘Life’! - Lauren :)
